CASTRO still not found

TODAY MARKS EXACTLY A YEAR since news broke over the disappearance or alleged death of hiplife/highlife artiste CASTRO D’ESTYROYER (Theophilus Tagoe) after an alleged jet ski accident. The social media buzz was so loud, replete with various accounts of what really transpired at the Peace Holiday Resort, Ada where the singer/rapper and his friends, prominent amongst them, footballer Asamoah Gyan, who also doubles as Castro’s singing buddy were enjoying holidaying.
This unfortunate development happened at a crucial time in Castro’s career. After what seemed like a long break, his Odo Pa collaboration with Asamoah Gyan and Kofi Kinaata placed him back into the spotlight. It was the view of many that Castro would grow his niche and morph into a hugely successful artiste.

Unfortunately, things took a different turn. Till date, the body of the alleged drowned Castro and his lady friend, Janet Banda, has not been found. Speculations about their whereabouts continue to circulate though nothing tangible has been confirmed by the police or family members.
As a tribute to this talented rapper, singer and dancer, CulArtBlog have put together a list of 7 top features Castro exposed the depth of his talents to every music enthusiast.
ADONAI RMX- with Sarkodie.
Whoever advised Sarkodie to draft Castro on the remix of Adonai deserves loads of thank you. The original Adonai song would have been just passed as an ordinary song- a song which could have easily earned the ‘disappointment’ title. The introduction of Castro turned the song into the most popular song for Sarkodie after You Go Kill Me. Castro’s voice and passionate delivery leaves you asking, like my pal @Larry_Andy: why didn’t Sarkodie put Castro on the original song rather than SK Blinks?

SIKLETELE – with 4X4
This song was the first single from the duo 4×4 and it features Castro. Both 4×4 and Castro were fresh faced acts building their fanbase during that time. One can safely attribute the collaboration between the two to Jay Q, the sound engineer who at that time also had Castro under his wings (his ‘small boy’). Castro built on this fame and cemented his place in the industry with the remake of George Jarrah’s ‘Sradi Nam’.

PERSONAL PERSON – with D-Black
A good mellow highlife grove produced by DJ Breezy excellently fell within the range of Castro who added his touch, turning the song a toast of radio and party djs. It was unsurprising to hear the song a multiple times on radio and pubs across the country. The success of the collaboration, which happened at a time Castro was enjoying his fame and basking in the limelight of showbiz led to Castro releasing another hit Seihor (Wo B3 Tse Kpee)

16 YEARS – with MzBel
16 years, produced by Jay Q happens to be one of MzBel’s biggest songs. Castro’s contribution on that tune can’t be under estimated. His rap highlighted the need to stop child sexual molestation-a clear case of music being used as a tool in addressing a social menace. No wonder it became the favourite of many.

Y3 NA BRA with 2Toff
It is said that when you want someone to help drive a product or announce your presence you feed on the fame of one who is on top of his game. That’s exactly was what 2Toff did with Castro. The Castro nailed hook became the quoted part of the song, giving a shade of beauty to the song in totality. Y3 Na Bra undoubtedly turned into 2Toff America’s biggest selling song.

LAST ONE – with Itz Tiffany.
The versatility of Castro-as a rapper and singer made him an all important guest to have on tracks. Itz Tiffany’s Last One gathered a bit of momentum on radio thanks in part to Castro who did a good work on this dance tune.

E DEY BE (I Am In Love)- with MzBel
Another song from Mzbel which features Castro is E Dey Be- a term which simply means It’s Good. It is a love song with both artistes confessing their love to one another. The song spurred up rumours that the two were dating, a suspicion which MzBel later confirmed. As has always been evident with any Castro assisted song, he brought his unmistakable brilliance onto this track, helping make it a national favourite.
