THE CUTS
The Cut bring to its readers a weekly music or albums list by mostly Ghanaian artistes that this writer deem worth listening or having in your playlist. The music is not genre and/or regionally specific. Once it is good, it will be covered here.
WANLOV – FOKN COUNTRY ft Kyekyeku & Francis Norman
“No bi my fault say they, they say them born me for Ghana/No bi my fault say they, they say them raise me for Ghana’’.
What follows is the perfect description of the country called Ghana-were all the ills and good combine to make it what it is.
Wanlov has been described in many ways-controversial, mad and irreverent. But, if there’s one thing you’d appreciate about the bare foot Afro Gypsy musician is his consciousness and activism for social justice.
On this guitar driven tune akin to Never Go Change, Wanlov points to the ills- corruption, borrowing, foreigners taking over the economic hems of the country, cowardice of citizens whiles teasing out the positives- rich, peaceful, country with smart people.
Despite the pain in his voice, Wanlov at the end of the song reveals ‘still I go die for this country’.

CHASE – AFIA POKUAA
Chase’s singing ability has not been in doubt for a minute. From Tell Me Your Name to Lonely, he has always hit it right with his music. So, hearing him on Afia Pokuaa, wailing melancholically about the player attitude of his lover over this mellow afro pop beats by PEE GH and partly in twi is absorbing.

On the song, the ‘Lonely’ hitmaker, in his quivering-emo falsetto voice quizzes: ‘how did we get this far? /How did you break my heart, babe/ Now, I can’t do nothing/But leave you alone’.
Afia Pokuaa is simply one to make rounds on many playlist. Chase was impressive.

A.I – UP TILL THE MORNING
I’ve wondered what happened to A.I after dropping his first single Anger Management and won hearts with his stellar display on JaySo’s hit song ‘Making Tasha Proud’.
Yesterday, I was sent a link by @dzyadzorm of his new song ‘Up Till The Morning’. As the title suggest, this EDM heavy single is a party tune talking about partying till the morning.
A.I and JaySo (producer) have handed party heads an anthem to jam away with.
