Writers Project of Ghana Host Literary Crossroads in Accra With Empi Baryeh and Uduak Akpabio Umoren
Writers Project of Ghana and Goethe-Institut Ghana bring to you the first edition of Literary Crossroads in Accra as our reading event for the month of May. There will be three Literary Crossroads events in Accra this year, hosting writers from Africa in readings with their Ghanaian counterparts. For the month of May 2019, we proudly present Ghanaian writer Empi Baryeh and Nigerian writer Uduak Akpabio Umoren at a reading and discussion session.
Empi Baryeh is the award-winning author of the novel Most Eligible Bachelor which won the award for Book of the year in the 2017 Ufere Awards. She writes African, multicultural and interracial romance stories, which happen to be her favourite genres of romance to read. Her other books include Chancing Faith (2012), Forest Girl (2018), His Inherited Princess (2018) and Expecting Ty’s Baby (2019). Empi works as a registrar at the University of Ghana, School of Applied Sciences, Korle Bu.
Uduak Akpabio Umoren is a Nigerian novelist and playwright. Her first published drama, Perfect Mother was nominated for the Nigeria Prize for Literature in 2010. This was followed by the drama Little Devils published in 2013. Impostor Alert!(2019) is her first novel and is receiving great reviews. Her works have been compared to those of Chimamanda Adichie from whom she draws inspiration. Uduak is currently working on her second novel The Search and a third drama piece Akutama’s Price.
