Worlasi Debuts New Single “Safia”; Announces Art Exhibition “EKA (A’line to yourLineage)” on August 17 in Accra
Renowned Ghanaian artist Worlasi is set to release his much-anticipated new single, “Safia,” on August 9, with a special live debut performance at his art exhibition “EKA (A’line to your Lineage)” on August 17 at Barn Door Beergarden in Accra. Known for his extraordinary versatility as a rapper, singer, music producer, and songwriter, Worlasi’s latest track promises to captivate audiences with its unique blend of African rhythms and reflective lyrics.
Originating from Ghana’s Volta region, Worlasi has made a name for himself by fusing soul and hip-hop with an African essence, creating music that deeply resonates with listeners. Fluent in English, Ewe, Fante, Ga, and Pidgin, his music reflects his diverse linguistic and cultural heritage. “Safia” is the first single from his upcoming album “Voices in My Head,” which focuses on celebrating the Ewe language.
“For the longest time, I have strived to incorporate more of my language, Ewe, into my music,” says Worlasi. “This year, I committed to creating an album that is 80% Ewe, and I am proud to have embarked on this journey. It has made me realize that I don’t know much, but at the same time, I know enough to learn more. The more I understand how much I don’t know, the more I want to learn.”
“Safia,” which means “key” in Ewe, tells a profound story about self-discovery and realizing that the answers we seek are often within our reach. Worlasi explains, “There is a saying that when one door closes, another opens. The first and most important door we often overlook is the entry to this world through a mother’s womb. The opportunity of having life is our first door to success. Some doors seem closed, but we’ve always had the key to those doors. We just need to find different ways and angles to make it work because, most times, we already have everything we need to get the work done.”
In “Safia,” Worlasi narrates the journey of a person who finds a door with their name on it but struggles to open it. Despite using every means at their disposal, the door remains shut until they find the key in their pocket, symbolizing the often-overlooked resources and solutions within us. Worlasi’s music embodies a blend of confidence, humility, knowledge, curiosity, optimism, and realism. With tracks like “Perfection,” “Jealousy,” “Mawena,” “Animate,” and “How Many Times,” he has performed on stages worldwide, including in Europe. Beyond his music career, Worlasi is a talented painter and the founder of the non-profit organization Giving Shade. “Safia” marks a new chapter in Worlasi’s artistic journey, encouraging listeners to embrace their language and culture. “My goal is to encourage all Ewe people across the world to embrace their language and explore it because the more we do, the more beauty we find in it,” he adds.
