AYLO – FUSION
My fellow music blogger, @stingg__has for a while been raving about the Nigerian music scene, especially the role of ‘underground’ artistes at producing awesome works and pushing the boundaries of music. One other thing worth mentioning is the fact that, for every genre of music made, there is a crowd ready to embrace it. Whiles the Nigerian scene boast the big pop stars- 2Face, Wizkid, Davido, Ice Prince, P-Square, M.I Abaga, there are others like Labaja, Brymo, Adenkule Gold and Ajebutter who are also raking up incredible fanbase.
This past week, I stumbled on a song from an artiste whose Soundcloud page profile reads: ‘Unfuckwithable’. The artiste is AYLO; the song is Fusion. The title is a well-chosen one as the song is a fusion of almost every genre of music out there-one can hear elements of jazz, rock, soul, juju music, afrobeats and R&B- all neatly woven into this soothing eclectic piece of sound.
With his deep calm voice sailing above percussion heavy beats, AYLO points to why artistes lately follow trends: ‘boys must chop, commercial is reigning’ whiles urging them to be original and ‘start your own trend’. He also talks about how albums are full of party songs as well as some who would call him crazy for taking the road less travelled.
With the attraction of trap music (and its dab dance) becoming irresistible for many artistes, even none hip hop artistes, it is worth acknowledging AYLO for deviating from the trends by not sacrificing his roots. Check his Soundcloud page for more.

MAGNOM feat MEDIKAL AMG & AYAT – MONEY IN MY POCKET (MIMP)
The trap beat bangs, AYAT’s voice grips and Medikal’s rap overflows with punchlines and wordplay. The two rappers talk about how ‘they want money in their pockets’ and ‘filing up their bank accounts’ hence their reason why they work hard. They go further to stress the importance of money.
Medikal and AYAT, since breaking out this year and latter part of last year respectively, have become a toast of many music fans courtesy their style and energy showcased on tracks. Magnom, putting these two hot prospects on his latest project is a smart move. The catchy hook and banging beat could make MIMP the next street anthem for the ‘grinders’
BERNIE feat Tim Lyre – MISS MONROE
A song with a title Miss. Moore should be of certain quality (as Miss. Merilyn Monroe was). Bernie, a young Nigerian producer plucks hot prospect on the Nigerian scene for this soulful tune.
Over soft, minimal drum and kick beat, Tim Lyre exalts the features and qualities of his Miss. Monroe and why he won’t want to lose her (there’s no one I’d rather lay with in this world but you). This single is off Production Collaboration, a two track project off Bernie’s soundcloud page.
The beauty of the song lies in both the calmness that surrounds it as well as the truthfulness behind each lyric(s) delivered by both Tim Lyre.

DISTRICT feat Ajebutter22 – MY LULU
‘I know your mum’s first name and your dad’s birthday/I can answer any security questions/I think I know the pin to your phone, the pin to your bank account’. Ajebutter 22, in his unmistakable heavy and slightly quivering voice, sings these words of intimacy to a girl he was contemplating leaving. District comes in to croon about the perceived spell (love) she has cast on him.
My Lulu, is a confessional love song with simple sing-along lyrics and a very groovy, mid-tempo beat. The song is not exceptional-there has been many dope love tunes. However, the catchiness of the beats is enough to get you moving.
