Press Release: Abena Rockstar Unveils ”Harvest Season” LP

The ‘’Harvest Season’’ LP is the debut album from Ghanaian rapper, songwriter and performer, Abena Rockstar. It comes after the release of two successful projects in 2014, namely, ‘’Only Few Can Relate’’ (O.F.C.R.) and ‘’May All Fears Inside Abort’’ (M.A.F.I.A.). The album speaks strongly, but not solely about the struggles of being a woman, a dark-skinned one for that matter. Among other themes, the ‘’Harvest Season’’ LP also speaks to ideas of work and expected returns for putting in work, which links in very aptly with the album’s title.

Abena Rockstar has been considered as one of Ghana’s promising rappers; and ‘’Harvest Season’’ is bound to land her into massive prominence, if the encouraging responses to the album have are stuff to go by.

‘’Harvest Season’’, which was mostly produced by JayFyn, and mixed and mastered by Peewee, has been independently released on all major digital music stores.

Abena Rockstar was born in the capital city of Ghana’s Ashanti Region, Kumasi.

Her story-writing ability was detected at the early age of 9; and she got into writing music, with time – primarily as an avenue to be heard, but also to engage people with her thought-provoking lyrics.  She recorded her first demo song in 2006.

With wide-ranging influences from the likes of Lauryn Hill and Etta James to Okomfoɔ Kwadɛe and Lord Kenya, Abena is rightfully associated with cutting edge lyrics about life and the realities of living.

In September 2017, her acclaimed eponymous single, ‘Abena’, was selected for study at the Department of African Studies at Howard University in the United States of America.

Abena Rockstar has performed on numerous music platforms, most notably on the stage of Ghana’s biggest art exhibition show, the Chalewote Street Art Festival, in 2017.  Counting herself as one of the star performers inside the famed yoyo tinz shrine is another considerable feat in Abena’s artistic journey.

At the start of 2018, a Swedish television station, Sveriges Television featured Abena Rockstar in their documentary which was meant to sell Ghanaian Hip Hop music to the rest of the world. The documentary was shot mainly at Brazil House in James Town, Accra.

Abena Rockstar’s debut album, the ‘’Harvest Season’’ LP, was released in January 2019.
