Gafacci’s “Like Water” Ft. Amaarae Fits All Mood

Gafacci makes transcendental music. His focus is not limited to the country of his origin and the taste of her music-loving populace. His curiosity and experiences have taught him that music transcends boundaries; that, whatever one creates, there are people ready to consume it. Plus, the music has the potential to cross borders if, and only if, it is done well. The process matters. The vision is important. Patience matters too. Fans will be cultivated over time. A mix of savviness and talent are the linchpins on which success is built.

Gafacci does not fit any defined musical description. His disruptive process is to blame. After years of producing hip hop, hiplife, RnB and Azonto records for numerous Ghanaian artists, he has finally -and firmly planted his boots within the throes of electronic dance/house music. Like the experimentalist he is, Gafacci rips open the EDM sound, filling it with azonto or traditional Ghanaian rhythms that spills with trance-like fervour. The outcome is usually a cauldron of riveting, colourful music.

Like Water” is the first single off his soon-to- be released album “TASH BNM”. Featuring the amazing- and equally versatile Amaarae, “Like Water” is the kind of song that both relaxes and pumps you up.

In her signature falsetto voice, Amaarae spreads her tender vocals across the excellently cooked minimal /lo-fi afropop beat. “She wants a lover/ who go give am/ give am ginger”, Amaarae croons. The charm of the song is reflected by the artwork accompanying the song. You may be pardoned for thinking that voice belongs to British singer NAO. (Hearing Gafacci veer into the afropop space on this tape is something I never imagined. Hey, that’s how unpredictable Gafacci is).

The production and feature aside, “Like Water” aces on how unburdened the song is- vocally speaking. That is, Gafacci and Amaarae did not pad the song with too much lyrics. Like a chef in the kitchen, Gafacci chops the right amount of lyrics for the song, offering enough beat time for the listener to appreciate his production skills.

Listen to “Like Water”.
