Having been in existence for four years and birthed in the suburbs of Teshie Nungua estates, FRA! has steadily grown from a cover band into a full blown act hosting their own shows and taking the stage front and centre to entertain their enthused fan base which has grown together with the band.
The band’s debut release ‘’FRA!ternity’’ was a carousel of songs, featuring a host of talented artistes like Efya and Adomaa just to name a few, which served as a strong start to introduce the Accra-based act to the public. The name fra means “mix” in Akan and is a perfect description of the type of songs the band comes up with. ‘’FRA!ternity’’ spanned a number of musical genres erstwhile injecting traditional Ghanaian and African rhythms into the entire experience. The fact that the band is a motley crew of individuals from varying musical backgrounds, just as the name suggests, is the prime reason for this.
The band toured Spain, playing a series of festivals and shows with Kyekyeku and the Ghanalogue Highlife, another band from Ghana led by the charismatic guitar virtuoso Kyekyeku, to promote their maiden album as part of the Vis-a-Vis cultural project. This project was held under the auspices of the governments of Spain and Ghana, spearheaded by Casa Africa to promote the adoption of African Music on a global scale as well as unearthing musical gems like FRA! From the unknown into the limelight.
The band will crown its tour with an album release concert at Alliance Française d’Accra on 17th August, 2019 for its sophomore album dubbed Journey. Journey is a collection of songs recorded from the pre-FRA!ternity era to the current run in the band’s emerging career. The band promises that Journey will offer an entirely new look at the band chronicling its beginnings till now with songs that set the tone for the band’s happy-go-lucky and optimistic outlook of life.
